SPECIAL ELECTION EDITION!! This is a special election edition of the Irish Volunteer. The next regular addition of the newsletter will come out on October. Ballots for military positions are being mailed out this week and should be in mailboxes soon. All military members of the 116th that have attended at least one 2005 event and have paid their dues for this year will receive a ballot. If you are eligible to vote and do not receive a ballot by October 5th, please contact John Baker. Each candidate was asked to submit a statement of no more than 50 words for this special election addition of our newsletter. The following statements are ordered by office and then by the candidates last name. ¾¾¾¾¾(¾¾¾¾¾ For the Position of Captain John Baker - Candidate for Captain Dear Soldiers of the 116th, It would be a great honor to serve as Captain. I have been privileged to serve the last 10 years as Private, Corporal, 2nd Sergeant, and Lieutenant. If elected, my highest concern will be for the collective safety, enjoyment, and positive growth of Company B. If I have the honor to be your commander, I will strive to help us grow as a unit and to make our impression, more military and more period correct than ever before. Dave For the Position of 1st Sergeant Kevin Burton - Candidate for 1st Sgnt. To the 116th P.V.I. I have been the First Sergeant of the company for some time now. I have fun at every turn, and learned many aspects of the movements on field. I believe that I have all the requirements of being the 1st sergeant fulfilled. I understand how things in the company work both at company level and also battalion level. It is with these reasons and many others that I ask you to consider me for your 1st sergeant again for this next term. I have attended most drills, NCWC classes and events. I will camp on the company street in order to be more closely involved with all aspects of our training, camp life, military activities and recruitment. My family and I have been going faithfully to the 4th of July weekend reenactment for 15 years as an observer and it was the highlight of my year. 2 1/2 years ago I finally took the plunge and joined up as a Union soldier along with my family. Gentlemen: I am running for the position of Corporal; therefore it seems fit that I should enumerate the reasons that I believe myself qualified for the post. I am well versed in the manual-of-arms and Infantry tactics. I have attended numerous reenactments and have many hours of battle experience.
